Alex Johnson. 27, believed he had an edge when he lined up to run the Fort Worth Runners Club 3 Amigos 4-Mile run on a warm and humid Saturday morning (June 26) at Trinity Park. The former Burleson resident has moved to Silverthorne, Colo., and is working in construction and training there, where the altitude is over a mile high. Coming back down to run at about 500 feet above sea level is a big benefit, he said, after winning the men's division in 24:07.7. He had a big scare, though, when his father, Rick, collapsed about a quarter of a mile from the finish. Fortunately, after receiving medical assistance, Rick was up and walking.
Winning the women's race was Egle Uljas, 25, a Baylor student from Estonia, making her the first foreigner to win the women's title since Fiona Green did in 2007. Fiona is from Scotland, though she now lives in Keller. Egle said she ran for Baylor last year, but isn't this year. However, she still is training. Egle said she'll go to Prague, Czech Republic, with her boyfriend upon graduation. He's studying for his Ph.D in Prague.
Winning the male masters title was Don Nelson, 54, of Grapevine in 25:52.5. It was Don's sixth 3 Amigos masters title. He also won the overall title in 1999. Fiona 45, won the women's masters title, her second at the event. She also is a former overall female winner, taking the title in 2007.
Sponsoring the race was Path to Wellness Chiropatric, one of the advertisers on this website.
