Victor Palma began shedding his competitors after about two miles and finally dropped his last challenger after five miles as he cruised to victory at the Fort Worth Runners Club's Mote In Motion Half Marathon and Two-Person Relay on a cool, overcast Sunday (Nov. 22) morning.
Palma crossed the finish line in a personal-best of under 1:23 to beat his old PR by about five minutes. Meanwhile, women's winner Katie Kelley of Gatesville, who will try qualifying for the Olympic Trials in 2012 in the 1,500 meters, tested herself in her first 13.1-mile distance and won in 1:31. Katie said she was OK until about mile 10, and then almost hit the "wall." But she didn't slow much as she zipped to the finish.
